Viscount masterfully tailors the compact Viscount V2 Family EW for easy family adventuring
Welcome additions to the family often provide the chaotic catalyst that lulls campers to the caravanning lifestyle. Thankfully, the clever crews at Viscount smooth the pathway with the V2 Family EW van focused on comfort–and favoured by our Aussie Alpine explorers on the What’s Up Downunder TV Series.
Manageable with a mid-size tow vehicle, this well equipped 2.1T Tare van (approx) offers a comfortable 600kg payload, a 6ft 8in ceiling height and ample storage capabilities wherever the black ribbon leads. What’s more, with little up front and tunnel boot storage, the towball weight isn’t a huge burden either.
Dining for All
A classy interior offers plenty in the hub in a convenient easy-to-tow 19ft 4in layout–with a caravan queen-size bed, a nice long L-shape table that’s big enough for the whole family, room for the double bunks–6ft 2in in length, for longevity. A microwave, four hob gas/electric cooktop, grille and full oven provides easy family meals at camp, plus the 174L fridge-freezer is three-way for gas-fuelled lightweight off-gridding. This gives more time between hookups out the chassis-mounted 110Ah AGM battery and (now) 200W solar panel. Twin 95L tanks provide the water supply away from traditional caravan park camps. It all rides on a tidy leaf spring system with a 50mm ball coupling up front–helping to keep weight off the ball and for easy coupling for school holiday travelling.
Smart Standards
No doubt about it, with so many different kinds of comforts available it can be difficult for manufacturers to decide upon what makes a good base. But as a family-women, I like the choice of smart caravanning comforts available for a truly competitive price seen here, like the reverse-cycle Gree air-conditioning, filtered water, a separate shower and toilet and a front-loading washing machine. As I imagine it would be the case for many growing families, getting a larger indoor table and bunks that are teenage size within a comfortable towing size is well worth the east-west configuration. The concertina door provides a practical way to separate the living quarters, and each bunk is fitted with a 12V plug granting a nice space for the kids to unwind after long commutes or active days.
All up, the Viscount V2 Family EW provides a great way to continue camping after having kids with a really comfortable, spacious layout focussing on easy family adventuring.
